To help his defense, Carl’s client has written a detailed account of his steamy, year-long relationship with Lara. Carl gives the text to Simone for analysis. While evaluating the presumed killer’s writing, Simone continues to receive psychiatric patients with sexual disorders and unusual fantasies, and to research strange sexual behavior for her next book. Meanwhile, Simone’s clinical partner, friend and research colleague, Edward, is working with the police to capture a serial killer who is torturing and killing women. From hot and unusual sex and interesting psychiatric patients, to the swing houses of New York and Paris, this fast-paced page-turner is a blend of mystery, suspense, humor, romance and erotica.

I loved the premise of this story and Simone's one-on-one sessions with her clients were highly entertaining, but the writing style felt very stilted to me. As a result, the pace of the story also felt very slow and I did not connect with the main characters. However, the flashback scenes transitioned well between the present-day scenes and the story was intriguing enough to hold my interest. The suspense level really ignited towards the finale and made for an interesting ending! **Author kindly gifted a complementary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Someone is targeting Simone .... one of her patients? The serial killer still running loose? BEHIND THE DOOR is an erotic thriller that will keep the reader glued to the chair from the very first page to the surprising ending. There is so much more to this book than "just" sex or highly sexual situations. It's more like a murder mystery on steroids with colorful characters, on both sides of the couch. Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of BEHIND THE DOOR. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

This book packs a wallop with the mystery and the sex appeal. Never expecting the next big scene it kept me reading wanting to know more. I was not sure what to expect as it is tagged as a sexual thriller, but it did not offend me, it only lured me into the story that was so uniquely woven. A great first book from A. Gavazzoni. I will read more from here as soon as they are available.

Each has their own characteristics, which lead to exciting times and great connections, or those that maybe don’t work…you’ll see. The main character is excellent and really connects you to the book, which I loved. The pace of the read is brilliant, as it really follows the pace I expected from an erotic read and the sexual encounters that go with it. That made it so easy to fall into the book and really become completely absorbed by what was happening. I truly could not put it down, for fear I might miss out on the feeling you get from the intense build-up in book like this. Trust me, you deserve that one extra chapter with this book ;) Overall, a very interesting and exciting read. This is one I truly recommend if you want something both thrilling and hot. **Arc provided for review.

All the characters are unique, realistic and believable. There is nothing like a fast past page turner thriller with many twists and drips "sexy" like no other I have read in quite some time, and I'm not talking (porn) erotica either... However, there is strong language and sex swingers, but it goes with the flow of this steamy murder mystery that includes death by a sex game and is a "whodunit." ... Excellently well written, because when a book makes you "feel" a wide range of emotions? The writer and author did her job well and with passion! I Highly Recommend this one Romance Thriller readers ... Can not wait for the next one. Well worth your time romance thriller readers.

A well-crafted psychological thriller. It’s not a comfortable romance to read drinking a bear. It’s written to disturb, twist your brains and arouse your senses. It would be an excellent movie.

Simone has excelled in her career as a sexual therapist, and is brought in to advise on the "accidental" death of a woman during sex play. Soon, Simone finds herself surrounded by more murders than one old case. I won a copy of this book during one of the author's giveaways. Soon, Simone finds herself surrounded by more murders than one old case. I won a copy of this book during one of the author's giveaways. With Simone's speciality, I kinda expected something that was mainly sex, or a dark romance; but this book is a really solid thriller, which pleasantly surprised me. I have to say, after the first few chapters, I was completely hooked. There are two storylines: The tragic story of Mark and Lara is told in a diary "manuscript" form, where Mark writes about all his dealings with Lara and their tumultuous relationship. It's really bittersweet in places, because you know that eventually, he kills her. And it is highly graphic about their sex life. Lara is an absolute goddess, and excessively in charge of her life and choices, all to overcome the psychological horror that is her history. With each revelation, I couldn't help but feel sorry for her, and admire her strength. Mark is such a steady character, but tries to be open-minded as he introduces the reader to the sordid world and sexual extravagances that Lara insists on. He is the only one that sees through Lara's pain; he is whatever Lara needs him to be, a lover and a friend. You can't help but love him. The second story is that of Simone, the psychologist that has been brought on to give a professional opinion on whether Mark is a murderer, or victim. Simone has her own problems, as a recent spate of murders suddenly become linked to her, as a body is left on her doorstep. Her colleague is a psychological advisor for the police, and keeps her informed on the hunt for the killer. The story dances between suspects, and various threats, building up the tension to boiling point. I didn't manage to correctly guess the killer, but it all made sense, which is another thing I highly approve of! The two storylines worked really well together, the heat of Mark and Lara; and the mystery threatening Simone. It teases the reader as one chapter ends and the next switches to the other plotline. The only thing that I found somewhat jarring was the ideology behind sexual desires, genders and LGBT. On the one hand, Mark and Lara live a very open and accepting life, they don't judge and they will participate in whatever feels good. But on the other, I felt that everything was set into neat psychiatrist's boxes. People aren't bisexual - they're just afraid to come out as gay. Anyone that wants a kinky sex life has to have had a trauma to explain their abnormal behaviour. The one gay character is flamboyantly and cliche gay, and reminds us of this frequently. It's only a small thing, but it just clashed against my beliefs of sexuality being a scale, instead of gay or straight, etc. Anyways, overall I highly enjoyed this book, and it made me constantly run late this week as I wanted to read just one more chapter. I would definitely recommend picking it up!

This book is a “sizzling psychological suspense” thriller with both erotic romance structured in an adult theme with strong language. Descriptive writing, strong characters and interesting life situations kept me engaged throughout the thirty chapters. Interesting plot that continually keeps the reader on his or her toes as the story switches between ‘Present Day-Simone’ and ‘Mark’s Journal’. Simone, an attractive, intelligent and dedicated psychiatrist, author and professor with a large client list of both men and women suffering with sexual behavioral issues such as paraphilia and hipoxiphilia. Maybe you, as with me, before I read this book don’t really know what paraphilia and hipoxiphilia is. Both of these represent sexual behavior that involves fantasy and controlled strangulation with consenting partners. Life steps up a beat for Simone when Carl, a Manhattan defense attorney hires her in a murder trial. If reading ‘Mark’s Journal’ isn’t enough stimulation for Simone, her “clinical partner, friend and research colleague, Edward, is working with the police to capture a serial killer who is torturing and killing women”. I would like to share a quote with you from chapter three ‘Present Day-Simone’ to whet your appetite for the read. “Addiction to adrenalin. The woman warned right at the start that she had a pathology. Her addiction could have been the result of any number of causes. Normally, some kind of disorder brings it on. The addict seeks intense thrills, sometimes danger. The worst part is that such people have little sense of real danger. They don’t wish for death but they don’t fear it either. Maybe Carl was right. Lara hadn’t been murdered; her death had been an accident. Accidents happen to people with that kind of problem. What could have been Lara’s pathology? Then there was Mark, a man apparently with his feet on the ground who was drawn to the flame. Many men like him are attracted to psychopaths. But he was rash. And maybe Lara wasn’t psychopathic. It was hard to diagnose with so few pages. But a shrink’s mind can’t read something without diagnosing it. Maybe the whole tale was made up.” If you have an adventurous mind, I recommend this stimulating read. The story is told well enough that it might end up on the silver screen on day. If you enjoy this book, I encourage you to purchase the next book in the sequel titled ‘Lara’s Journal’. I (Theodocia McLean) endorse ‘Behind The Door’ by A. Gavazzoni as the genre I might have missed. Maybe murder, maybe a mutual sexual consent that took an unexpected turn? I will leave you with the task of answering this question and follow the trail of a serial killer at the same time. I purchased this book on May 10, 2017 and the review was completed on May 12, 2017 Kindle https://www.amazon.com/Behind-Door-Si...

The story will go back and forth as Simone reads the text (that reads like a sexy novel) and then back to her present life, so it is like getting two stories in one. As the story continues it will take you through Simone life with her sessions with her patients to her and her colleague as they research a new book together that takes them from swing houses in New York to Paris to her clinical partner killer who is trying to catch a serial killer before he kills again. Being that this book is the first in the series of Hidden Motives we can look forward to more interesting stories about Simone and her clinical partner solving more unusual sexual cases.

I really enjoyed this book. It's very well written and the story it's easy to read. Behind the Door is a book I was keen to read ever since discovering it; when I found the book and read the rave reviews and learned of the themes laced throughout the book I knew that I would not only have to read it but that I would also love it. I knew that I would love the book because at the heart of the story is psychology. Psychology covers a broad range of topics, but the core psychological topic in Behind the Door is sexual behavior but not normal sexual behaviors… twisted and even disturbing behaviors. Many readers will not know of some of the unusual behaviors that exist so this will intrigue readers and keep them entertained. The intriguing psychological aspects combined with A. Gavazzoni’s exceptional literature makes me believe that all readers, no matter your reading tastes will love and bewitched by the book so what are you waiting for! Read the phenomenal book and get lost in a twisted but entertaining story. Behind the Door follows the esteemed protagonist of the novel, Simone, ‘a psychiatrist, professor and author of books on sexual behavior.’ Simone has a large clientele thanks to her many years of work; Simone’s clientele includes women and men from all backgrounds and from many age groups, and her goal is to help and treat their sexual behavioral issues which are very far from the norm! Simone has received great recognition for her work and the help she provides, after all, Simone is a professor so when she is asked by a savvy defense attorney, Carl, to help with a case he is working on she agrees and throws herself into it. Little does she know that the case she investigates will be unlike anything she has witnessed before. The case in question revolves around Manhattan lawyer whose ‘partner’ Lara dies during a sex game of theirs. Carl is trying to prove that the death was accidental and in no way murder and so Simone must investigate the presumed murderer and analyze his side of the story… word for word. Behind the Door, however, is a multi-layered novel and the criminal investigation is not the only focus in the book. Instead, the reader will also follow Simone as she continues her work, helping and treating those with troubling sexual disorders and all of this happens while a terrifying, deadly spree of killings are occurring that involve the torture and murder of women. Are these events intertwined? Separate? Read the thrilling and fascinating book and be taken on the journey to find out! The story of Behind the Door is everything I wanted it to be and so much more. When I read the reviews of the book, I was impressed… However! I did worry that they had made my expectations too high! That is why when I started to read the book I was a tad hesitant because I wanted it to be just as great as the reviews had described it to be. I can happily write now book lovers now that I have finished the book and by chapter two I was hooked and turning the pages with haste! A. Gavazzoni is an author whose literature I admire, one quality I admire about Gavazzoni is the fact that she is brazen with her writing. A lot of authors shy away from sex in literature, and many of them would never dream of writing about sexual behaviors that are yes, very twisted! So I admire Gavazzoni for being brave and writing a sensational book on a somewhat taboo subject. This shows us, readers, that Gavazzoni is a risk taker and an author who is prepared to take risks for the pleasure and entertainment of her readers; this is a quality I admire in an author, so it is safe to say that Gavazzoni will always have a reader in me now! Not only is Gavazzoni a phenomenal author for being bold with her literature but she also is thanks to the creation of her unique story and her development of it that flowed beautifully throughout. The story is most undoubtedly unique but it is also breathtaking as well as entertaining. Gavazzoni ensures from beginning to end that her readers are entertained, and she does this by lacing twists and turns throughout her book as well as shocking her readers with her daring literature! Overall Behind the Door is a superb, dramatic, thrilling novel that captivated me for hours on end and so, I have no choice but to award this stellar read five stars! So please, if you are looking for a unique novel then have a read of Behind the Door…you will not regret it!

Behind the Door (Hidden Motives Book 1) by A. Gavazzoni was definitely sizzling. There were many steamy sex scenes, but not too overdone like some erotic books. Being a social worker, I was curious to read about the mental health and psychological aspects of the story, which was portrayed well. I liked how the author interweaved the storytelling from the main character and the writing of the suspect, almost like two books in one. The author does know the law and astrology, and I found the astrology information interesting. The story entailed a surprising twist of events. It will be interesting to follow this series and see what happens in subsequent books.

‘Behind The Door’ is a book honest to its name and expands the meaning of it right till the end of the book. The name is a metaphor into people’s core personality and hidden secrets. The book takes you to places. Not just physical places but different places of people, mind and emotions. It is amazing how the book keeps one engaged in some or the other emotion throughout the reading. Erotica, pity, bereavement, happy, love are all felt at such peaks and valleys. The array of human characters described, mixed with a cocktail of emotions takes you on a ride, leaving baffled towards the end. Mystery, thriller and one hell of a love story which requires one to be broad minded and open to the understanding that indeed, love conquers all, until fate takes over, is the cut short version of what the book is about to offer you.

I found Lara quite flighty, even though as you go on in the book; you start understanding why she is the way she is. I also wasn't a fan of the sort of things Mark was getting involved in; and I most certainly didn't anticipate the ending. I got a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Definitely NOT my normal genre, but there was a nice plot twist and enough of the psychological thriller aspect to keep me interested. Fast paced and well written.
